Lizzie Calligas - At the Xenia Hotel in Andros 2001-2012

Lizzie Calligas opens an archive of images that she has been collecting for more than a decade and has kept a record of the condition and the damage suffered by the Hotel Triton (Xenia Andros) of Aris Konstantinidis. The project At the Xenia in Andros, 2001-2012 (an archive opens) moving beyond the art of recording history, the evidence and memories, acts as mediator between the past and present with an archive that documents but also interprets, suggesting new stories through the artistic experience. By reenergizing the past in photographic and archival form, the artist speaks not only for that past but also makes a statement on how alive and open it can be to reading, interpretation and even application.

The speeches and conversations held in the course of the exhibition along with a blog that has been purposely created, aim to encourage two-way communication between artists, theorists, cultural and archival institutions and the general public on the relationship that artists and contemporary art have with archives and the past, as well as with the present and society.

This book was published on the occasion of Lizzie’s Calligas exhibition At the Xenia Hotel in Andros 2001- 2012 (an archive opens) in the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art (iset), November 2012.
